Leadership Tri-Cities Class 22 Alumnus and Local Lawyer Shares How His Time in LTC Impacted His Life

“The relationships you build with people in distinctly different areas of business or government…has proven to be extremely helpful to my career, but moreover, just helpful and positive to my life."

Jeff Johnson is an attorney and managing partner at the Kennewick-based law firm Johnson & Johnson, and is a Leadership Tri-Cities (LTC) Class 22 alumnus.

Since its founding, the Johnson and Johnson Law Firm has grown to three different offices with two distinct areas of practice—Personal Injury and Criminal Defense.

Being involved in the inner workings of the Tri-Cities area, Jeff found his time in the Leadership Tri-Cities program to be particularly helpful in his own area of practice.

“...the distinctive memory I have from LTC is just the education you learn about the community and all the different aspects that you're exposed to. That really gives you a well-rounded education of the Tri-Cities and the important entities, companies, and people that run this community to keep it headed in a positive direction.”

Networking in the program was also a major help to his career. He explains: “The relationships you build with people in distinctly different areas of business or government…has proven to be extremely helpful to my career, but moreover, just helpful and positive to my life.”

Through community projects and outreach programs within LTC, he found that the experience of being able “to see a whole different world that you're not exposed to all the time” was a “major benefit of the organization.”

When asked how LTC impacted him personally and professionally, Jeff explained how the program grew his professional and social skills which have allowed him to help others in the community with their legal and life problems.

"I have a certain avenue of cases that I take on which fits within this realm of Injury Law, but there are a lot of problems that people present to me that are attached to an injury case or they come into my office with a host of life problems. And I feel like I still have some institutional knowledge I learned from LTC that allows me to act as a navigator for them to find the company or the resources that they need for their other problems that I might not be able to help with in my capacity as a lawyer."

He went on to share about the benefit of all the knowledge that is gained about the community through LTC:

“...you have to have knowledge as an attorney of areas outside of your niche or outside of your area of law to be able to provide services to your client…I can use that general knowledge to help guide my clients through a messy system or a complicated government issue or whatever might stumble across my desk.”

Jeff found his experience at LTC to be beneficial to his career and believes that the program is great for anyone who is starting or wanting to further their career in the Tri-States.

“I don't know of any other organizations, locally, that can plug you into the knowledge of this community and some of the people in leadership roles in our community like LTC can.”
