Leadership Tri-Cities Class XXVI Update

After a yearlong hiatus, we were geared up and ready to welcome Class 26 to their first week of activities – team building and the retreat in Wenatchee. However, due to the rising case rate of Covid-19 and the Delta variant in our community, the Executive Board made the difficult decision to delay Class 26 to the 2022 – 2023 program year.

Several factors led us to the final decision.

After receiving feedback and questions from multiple class members, we realized the need to quickly implement multiple COVID mitigation strategies to minimize class and volunteers’ exposure.

Communicating with leadership facilitator/trainer Paul Casey, we realized we did not have the time to radically alter the team building or the class retreat to Wenatchee to accommodate the valid concerns of the incoming class. Combined with our rapidly increasing case counts, and the unknown requirements that could come from the State over the program year, we found ourselves in an untenable position.

Class Director Kyle Cox reached out to Class 26 asking them to complete a survey measuring their level of comfort on multiple dimensions including: masking, interacting/moving in close quarters with others, eating meals together, rooming together, traveling together to and from Wenatchee, being outside given current and predicted air quality, whether a vaccination requirement would impact their decision to participate, and, if unvaccinated, whether they would be willing to be vaccinated in order to participate. All but one class member completed this survey. The results show significant concern from members of the class on many of these safety dimensions. Thankfully, 100% of Class 26 members expressed interest in participating next year, should we delay the program.

We greatly appreciate our community . This is not a decision any of us wanted to make, but given the reality of the situation, it was the right decision for our organization.

In service,

-The LTC Executive Board

Calling all LTC Alumni

Over the course of the next several months, our board of directors is working hard on two areas:

  1. We are updating our contact information, and will be reaching out to members of each class to get an update on what you’ve been up to since we last saw you. In order to do this, we are asking you to update your email and other contact methods. Please fill out this form to ensure we can reach you. https://lp.constantcontactpages.com/su/MXOkacc/ltcregistration
  2. The Leadership Tri-Cities board is coordinating an alumni-led community service project. We are looking for LTC alumni to participate in the project planning and execution. Please fill out this survey to let us know how you can help! We have lots of areas for participation – one might be right for you!

A message from Leadership Tri-Cities

To our sponsors, alumni, and community members:

We are writing to report to you on decisions affecting the operation of Leadership Tri-Cities in this time of COVID-19. Our Board of Directors has concluded that it would be better to wait a year to begin Class XXVI. This will give us time to understand the “new normal” as it applies to personal interactions and adapt the curriculum accordingly. We will begin recruiting for Class XXVI in March of 2021 and begin their experience with the ropes course in August 2021. Additionally, graduation for Class XXV has been rescheduled to be held this September.

As the local situation with the coronavirus has developed over the past weeks, LTC has adapted accordingly, meeting via Zoom rather than in person, holding our last two session days (Arts & Culture and Hanford Day) virtually, and refocusing our outreach via our monthly newsletters. Although challenging, these past months have provided opportunities for us to reexamine processes and learn new ways to communicate with each other.

Leadership Tri-Cities now counts over 500 community leaders who have graduated our program, and we are currently leading our 25th class. We pride ourselves on developing a diverse cadre of skilled leaders who will become catalysts for change in our community. Since LTC provides each class member a unique opportunity for personal engagement both during and after graduation, we believe it is imperative that we provide Class XXVI an experience that is equal and equitable to our previous classes.

Our Board of Directors will take the next year to engage with our alumni, sponsors, and community leaders to refine our focus on addressing our community’s needs. With over 25 community service projects to our credit, we know Leadership Tri-Cities has already made a huge impact on non-profits, service organizations, and residents in our community. Now more than ever, we want to reconnect with and mobilize our alumni in serving the Tri-Cities. The challenges of this pandemic give us an opportunity and a call to action for community members who proudly call themselves graduates of Leadership Tri-Cities.

Again, thank you for your continuing support of our important work to identify, develop, and motivate the men and women who will lead our community into the next quarter century.

Be safe. Be well.

Congratulations to Leadership Tri-Cities graduates and alumnus of the year

Jennifer Harper, Class XXII, Communications Director

Graduation for Class XXIV was held Wednesday, June 12 at the Three Rivers Convention Center. Nearly 200 people attended to celebrate the class on their achievement, as well as congratulate Brian Ace, Class XIII, as this year’s Alumnus of the Year recipient.

Each year the class selects a project that benefits an organization within the community. Class XXIV partnered with Domestic Violence Services of Benton & Franklin Counties (DVSFB). The class made several improvements to their shelter, including upgrades to the staircase, installing an improved security system and play area for children, and making several minor improvements to the property. In addition to these upgrades, the class presented DVSFB with a check for $21,000 – the remainder of the funds raised from their benefit held in April.

Leadership Tri-Cities recognized Brian Ace, Class XIII, as recipient of the 2019 Alumnus of the Year Award. Brian was instrumental in the completion of the new Boys & Girls Club facility in East Kennewick which will serve about 250 students in an area identified as a critical concern, lacking in programs and outreach dedicated to changing kids’ lives. This project, along with others, shows the time, energy and passion Brian puts in to make sure our local youth have safe places and educational resources to become our next generation of leaders.

Brian spoke to the class of his experience with Leadership Tri-Cities, and hoped they all were left feeling “tired, but inspired” after their year.
